Here is what states rights health care means in Pennsylvania. In the month following his inauguration, Corbett kicked 41,000 poor people off adultBasic health care coverage. He said that adultBasic ran out of money on February 28 and the Commonwealth can not afford to continue it. By contrast, that same year, Capital Blue Cross made a profit of $72,000,000, and Highmark a profit of $463,000,000. These companies gave huge bonuses to their CEOs and top management, many of whom gave generously to candidate Corbett’s gubernatorial campaign.
During that same month in February, Corbett had extreme pain in his back and legs. He was diagnosed with spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal. In May of that year, Gov. Corbett had a 90 minute procedure on his spinal canal that reversed the pain and the numbness in his legs and back at Allegheny Hospital.
The successful surgery, paid for by tax dollars, allowed Corbett to continue to use Commonwealth tax dollars to oppose the federal affordable health care act as unconstitutional.
